For now
Look for pre-planned funeral or burial instructions
Before making arrangements, check whether they already made plans. Look for a prepaid funeral contract, a funeral insurance policy, a letter of instruction, or wishes noted in their will. Ask close family whether they ever mentioned what they wanted. Following what they planned is usually simpler and less expensive than starting fresh.

Good to know
Start there: Prepaid contracts are usually held by a specific funeral home. If you find one, that home is the natural starting point for the next call.
