Write and submit an obituary
The obituary announces the death, shares a few details of their life, and gives service information. Most funeral homes will help write and submit it. Local newspapers charge by word or line; hometown papers where they grew up often run them at no cost. Post to social media or a memorial site too.
What you'll need
- Key dates and names of close family
- A few details about their life
- Service details
- A recent photo
Good to know
Ask for help writing it: If you're staring at a blank page, ask two or three people who knew them well to send you a paragraph each about who they were. Stitching those together is easier than starting from scratch.
