Notify each bank and credit union
Call each institution or visit a branch with the death certificate and any court paperwork. They'll freeze the account, cancel debit cards, and tell you what's needed to release the funds, either to a joint owner, a named beneficiary, or the estate.

- A certified copy of the death certificate
- Letters Testamentary (your court appointment)
- Your photo ID
