Check what needs to be settled before you close
Closing the estate is the last step, and it depends on everything before it. Before you pay final debts and distribute what's left, make sure the accounts, property, and benefits from the earlier chapters are handled, and that the final income tax and any estate tax returns are filed. The court will want to see all of it in your final accounting.
